A letter from the Superintendent
about funding reductions and future budget cuts

International Baccalaureate
at Bartow High School

Interested In Attending-Eligibility

Who Should Consider the IB School?

Successful IB students:

  • are self-motivated students who manage their time well. (Students are helped to develop these skills in the ninth grade's Inquiry Skills class.)
  • have support at home; parent(s) / guardian(s) who believe that a good education is one of the most important gifts they can give their child.
  • want to make a four year investment in themselves and understand that the "pay-off" of IB is received in their readiness for college. As an additional benefit, some colleges give students who have earned an IB Diploma advanced placement credit, or allow students to begin college taking higher level courses.

Visit the International Baccalaureate Organization Home Page for more information about the program.

The IB program is not for everyone. Polk County offers high school students many opportunities to attend high school programs which specialize in the Arts, in Technology, or in other advanced academic classes.

Who Is Eligible to Apply to the IB School?

Only Polk County eighth graders who have maintained a 3.0 or better Grade Point Average in middle school. Entry into the IB School is only available to qualified eighth graders for their upcoming ninth grade year as Polk has a four-year Pre-IB and IB program.
