Accessibility for All!

The International Baccalaureate School at BHS has made an effort to enable access to this site for all virtual visitors.

We have defined keyboard Access Keys and Tab stops for those visitors whose browsers support them and for whom navigation with a mouse is difficult or impossible. Use the following Access Keys to navigate each page on this site:

• w - to skip to the top of each page
• x - to skip to the topic for each page
• y - to skip to the navigation menu
• z - to skip to the acknowledgements and contact information

You can also use the Tab key to skip around the pages.

Why design Web-Accessible sites?As with all things web, the page display will vary on different browsers and will appear differently on different operating systems. Most "un-disabled" web users are not aware that the size of letters is smaller on Internet Explorer compared to the same page viewed using Netscape, and on a Linux system, the type on both browsers is smaller still. The background color of the navigation menu for this site will vary--some computers and browsers will display a pale teal background, while on others the background may appear to be a pale purple or pink or gray. We have used ALT tags for pictures and summaries for any tables we used so you can navigate this site easily even if you are using a text browser like Lynx or a screen reader, or you've disabled the display of images because your internet connection is slow. If you've ever been surfing and had your computer and browser freeze, there's a good chance the website you were displaying had errors. One of the greatest benefits of accessible web pages is that you should experience fewer problems accessing the information as well as avoiding the "best viewed with" a specific browser message or a message saying you cannot access the information because your browser doesn't support the html coding or java scipt used.

First the good news about accessibility on this site. There are no frames used for formatting on this site. Whenever possible, formatting is done with style sheets using methods supported by both old and newer browsers. We did not use image maps nor javascripts for navigation so most people using alternative voice or text browsers will be able to access all of the information on our site.

Now the bad news. The oldest browsers may not support the formatting methods we used. Users of older browsers will see the pages displayed in a text-only non-colorized format--but with the silver lining of an accessible site, you will still be able to access all of the information.
